Nestled in the existing volume the new library is spread over two floors which, as independent tapes, play with each other creating a varied volumetric effect. In the center there is a small courtyard-cloister of irregular shape, the true heart of the project. The dynamism of the solid lines is interrupted by the rigid crystal cube, with the natural play of reflections and transparencies, changes the architectural landscape depending on the presence of natural and artificial light. The entrance to the ‘heart’ of the building is reported in the green area along the existing audience. The raised vertices of the two volumes create a narrow and symbolic passage between ‘urban din and scholar quiet’.
